oa Central African Journal of Medicine - A case of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung with associated anomalies

Of the approximately 108 cases of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation reported in the English literature thirteen had associated anomalies. Six of the thirteen cases had anomalies of the kidneys. It is also of interest that of Stocker et al's ten cases with other malformations nine had the type II lesions (Stocker, et al., 1977). In all 38 of their cases the lesion was confined to either the right or left lung leading one to believe that the congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation is amenable to surgical intervention. However, the frequency of associated anomalies in the type II malformation explains the poor survival as exemplified in this case.
