Abstract

It seems likely that in the future, still possibly remote, there will be few general practitioners, because the G.P., who is losing most of his interesting work, is already tending to prefer to specialise. The duties of the G.P. are becoming more administrative and less and less medical. The G.P. could be replaced by an administrator who would be called in for dealing with patients whom the district nurse cannot treat but who do not appear to require immediate hospitalisation.
