Abstract

Acute pancreatitis in the Zimbabwe African is a serious disease of unclear aetiology and is associated with significant morbidity and high mortality rate. The important associated aetiological factors are biliary disease, alcoholism, trauma, metabolic disorders, various drugs, liver diseases, carcinoma of pancreas, mumps and blood dyscrasias. A large proportion of cases are idiopathic.
