Abstract

Some epidemiological, clinical and radiological aspects of carcinoma of the oesophagus in 78 patients are presented. There was a significant association between consumption of both alcohol and tobacco and carcinoma of the oesophagus and no association with alcohol only or tobacco only consumption. It was further indicated that the majority of patients with carcinoma of the oesophagus were alien Africans, most of them Malawians. The histology showed squamos ceIl carcinoma in an overwhelming majority of patients. Furthermore, the radiological aspects of carcinoma of the oesophagus have been extensively studied.
