Abstract

We have found that there are four distinct syndromes of emotional disturbance namely the insecure child linked with difficulties in the early baby period, the mixed-up child linked with difficulties in the late baby period, the child with behaviour difficulties linked with difficulties in the toddler period, and the anxious child linked with difficulties in the nursery school period. In each .of these syndromes, clinical .picture, symptoms, timing of trauma, regression in play and methods of prevention or treatment all link up together to form a recognisable entity.
