Abstract

The dramatic improvement with complete recovery is descriptionbed in a patient with paraplegia due to schistosomiasis that must ordinarily be regarded as a serious effect of the disease and an equally rapid response in those European males suffering from the Katayama syndrome when steroids were given as well as antischistosomal drugs. It is suggested that the patient showing allergic manifestations of schistosomiasis in whom the local lesions are likely to be in active formation, should be given steroids as well as the specific drug in order to overcome the infestation.
