Abstract

This is a case report of traumatic dissection of the whole aortic tree as a result of a road traffic accident. The patient presented with a right lower limb monoplegia and sensory loss, but with no other visible injury. Dissection of the aorta was suspected from the aortic diastolic murmur and variable peripheral pulses. The patient died eight hours after the accident from retrograde rupture of the dissection into the pericardial sac. The neurological complications associated with dissection of the aorta are discussed and a method of management is outlined.
