Abstract

Aeromonax hydrophila was isolated from the stool of an adult with acute gastroenteritis in Jos Nigeria. The organism was also isolated from the batch of frozen raw edible land snails. (Achatina Spp) from which the patient had dined the previous evening. Viable Aeromonax hydrophila count from the snail was 109 per gram. Isolates were found to be enterotoxigenic, Beta-lactamase positive and Beta-haemolytic. The public health significance of these findings is discussed.
