Abstract

Hypertension in general and the treatment are discussed. Patient compliance in the treatment of a generally asymptomatic condition is important with health education and medical support playing a part. This is part of a preventive health care programme. A drug regimen, if needed, should consider cost and aim at absence of or minimal side effects and should suit the individual patient's way of life.
