Abstract

Over a five day period in December 1981, 100 consultations with township n'anga were recorded. One of us (C.S.M.), a Zimbabwean botanist well known to the n'anga, was allowed to sit in on the consultations and take notes on the nature of the cause attributed to the illness of each patient, and on the remedies advocated to cure the complaints. Between 10 and 15 consultations were recorded with each n'anga.
