Abstract

A retrospective study of cases of acute pyogenic osteomyelitis admitted to Marondera General Hospital during the two year period 1976-77 compared with those admitted during 1981-82 shows a disturbing five-fold increase in the incidence of the disease. The strains of Staphylococcus aureus causing this disease have become penicillin resistant and also demonstrate resistance to a variety of formerly useful antibiotics.
