Abstract

A European boy, aged 16 years, developed acute trypansomiasis after a visit to the Zambesi Valley. He contracted an acute erythematous maculo-papular eruption with some resemblance to that of measles or tick bite fever. It cleared after some days. The patient was treated with antrypol and steroids. The development of a morbilliform type of eruption in a person who has a fever and has been to an endemic sleeping sickness area should be regarded as a sign of the disease just as chancre or jaundice may be in the early stages of the disease.
