Abstract

Species identification of blood stains is a problem frequently encountered by the forensic serologist. Commercially available antisera often produce cross reactIons between unrelated species. Isoelectric focusing of haemoglobin in blood stains on agarose gels has proved a useful additional technique in blood stain identification. This aspect of serology is of particular importance in Zimbabwe due to the high incidence of stocktheft and poaching.
