Abstract

A year study of all cases of epistaxis presenting to the Ear, Nose and Throat Unit of Lagos University Teaching Hospital is reported. It shows that epistaxis is more prevalent in men than in women. Age group most commonly affected are the 21-30 year-olds. More cases are seen in the wet raining season than in the dry one. The single commonest cause is trauma which in most cases is easily amenable to treatment. Effective traditional treatments given to some cases need more elucidation.
