Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a rare disorder of unknown aetiology resulting in obstructive jaundice and eventually secondary biliary cirrhosis. Although this condition is associated with disease such as ulcerative colitis, multifocal fibrosclerosis, Reidls struma and Crohn's disease, no causal relationship has been proven. Aspects of the pathology, course and treatment of the disease are discussed.
