oa Central African Journal of Medicine - The pattern of leukaemia in adult Zimbabweans
Abstract
A survey of leukaemia as seen in the University and Government medical wards of the Harare Group of Hospitals over a 3-year period (1980- 1982) is presented. Over the 3 years 127 leukaemic patients were seen. The incidence of each type of leukaemia is estimated, with acute myeloblastic leukaemia being the most common (38,5 %) and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia the least common (11%). The distribution patterns of type, sex and age are compared with those in other parts of the world, and a brief review of the literature is given.
