Abstract

The mean weight for age of nearly 200 Zambian children up to two years is around the underline or third percentile of the international standard of the ""road to health record"". After the age of two there is remarkable catch-up growth. The nutritional state of around 600 Zambian children under the age of five shows that just three quarters (76.7%) are in a good nutritional state and that around 7%, are undernourished, with a MAC of 12,5cm. or less. Within the western province the under nourishment in the Sichilli area is even higher 9%, and at the west bank of the Senanga district just 4,3%. This figure is mentioned by King as the African average for under nutrition.
