Abstract

Extracts from eight plants known to have medicinal properties were qualitatively tested for the presence of alkaloids, anthranoids, polyphenols, tannins and cardenolides using the precipitation and colour reaction methods. Results obtained showed that 100% of the plants studied contained polyphenols, 88% cardenolides, 75% alkaloids, 75% anthranoids and 63% tannins.
