Previous studies have established that children suffering from specific reading retardation are more likely to present with an associated conduct disorder than an emotional disorder. The present study compared a group of children with specific reading retardation (SRR) and a group with emotional disorders. The S. R. R. group could be distinguished with regard to factors diagnostic of a learning disorder, but were similar to the emotional disorder group in the type of psychological disturbance. The SRR group was however significantly less disturbed than the emotional disorder group
