Abstract

In Zimbabwe as in all other countries there is a group of drug abusers. These are mostly under 40 years and often pose very difficult problems to primary care physicians, as well as nurses, clinic staffs, casualty officers, pharmacists and hospital based physicians. All doctors who practice in an urban setting will, sooner or later have contact with persons seeking to use the physician in an effort to obtain drugs of abuse. It is often difficult to deal with these patients most of whom are highly manipulative and skilful in using a variety of techniques to obtain drugs.
