Abstract

A study on pancreatic diabetes showed that the incidence of radio-logically proven cases of pancreatic calcification in diabetic patients has decreased significantly from 12,6% to 1,5% (P ?0.001) over a twenty-year period at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. This may be related to the improvement in the living standard of Nigerians during the past one decade. The mortality rate among the patients was found to be high as the majority of them died within five years of diagnosis. Most deaths resulted from infections, hyper and hypoglycaemic coma and pedal gangrene.
