Abstract

Large numbers of patients with anthrax were admitted to the Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital (BRIDH) throughout the epidemic, most of whom presented themselves for examination and treatment, stating simply and clearly - ""Cattle have died in our area and now I have this sore."" It must be obvious from the previous papers that the staff of the peripheral health service understood very clearly what was happening, and from our hospital experience there is little doubt that the people as a whole were well aware of the connection between cattle deaths and subsequent skin lesions in humans.
