Abstract

Cholera is one of the common diseases in tropical countries coming in epidemics periodically. The mechanism of miarrhea was descriptionbed by Field in 197I. There is no bacteraemia in patients with cholera. Some of us have already reported that there is endotoxaemia in these patients. The haematological changes are primarily due to dehydration and loss of fluid resulting in haemo concentration. However, there is definite polymorphonuclear leukocytosis in these patients which disappears after recovery from acute attacks.
