Abstract

This paper highlights the economic benefits of surgical versus conservative management of patients with oesophageal stricture following corrosive burns. It shows conclusively that in this country morbidity as well as eventual cost to the patient are much less when early surgery is offered. Reintegration of the patient into the society is achieved in a shorter time. The paper also proposes criteria for early surgery in these patients.
