Abstract

Tracheomalacia, resulting from thyroid compression, gave rise to recurrent symptoms of wheeze and dyspnoea which suggested a diagnosis of asthma. Complications due to the unrecognized tracheomalacia, which occurred during a period of assisted ventilation for respiratory failure and which presented major diagnostic and therapeutic problems, are discussed.
