Abstract

Levels of glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1) were measured in normal, diabetic and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficient Nigerians using the diagnostic kit supplied by Boehringer Mannheim GmbH which employs the minicolumn chromatographic method. Normal adult Nigerians had a mean HbA1 level of 6,13 ± 0,92 per cent, whereas diabetic patients showed a two-fold increase in HbA1, with a mean of 12,71 ± 3,57 percent. Values for G-6-PD deficient subjects showed no significant differences from that of normal controls.
