Abstract

Ninety consecutive patients referred for oral cholecystography were allocated to one of two groups. On the evening prior to oral cholecystography, one group took a low-fat diet while the other took an unrestricted (normal) diet. The cholecystograms were assessed. There was no statistically significant difference either in the demonstrated pathological gall bladder or in the incidence of "failed" cholecystograms in both groups. It is concluded that giving low fat meal on the evening prior to oral cholecystography does not influence the examination. It is, therefore, recommenced that in our environment patients should take their normal diet. Other comparative findings are also discussed.
