Abstract

Accidental rectal injuries are uncommon in civilian life; however, they are commonly seen in agricultural communities. Five cases of rectal impalement out of 9,722 admissions over a 30-month period to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Nigeria are presented. The presence of associated injuries to other organs and late presentation to hospital make their management difficult, particularly in the developing countries.
