oa Central African Journal of Medicine - Advanced secondary extra-uterine pregnancy: two case reports

Volume 34, Issue 8
  • ISSN : 0008-9176

Under the little of advanced secondary extra-uterine pregnancy, two cases in which the fetuses were living or evidence that they had lived in the peritoneal cavity are presented. A rough incidence rate of 1:6,400 at the University Teaching Hospital is given. The presentation as well as the management of the cases are discussed. The importance of a senior member of the team carrying out the laparotomy as well as the gentle handling of the placenta and its membranes during the operation are both emphasised. The price for not doing this is sadly shown by the loss of the uterus in Case 2.
