Abstract

Fifty cases of community acquired strains of Staphylococcus aureus causing superficial abscesses were tested for tbeir sensitivity to commonly used antibiotics. Ninety-two percent of isolates were resistant to benzyl-penicillin and ampicillin. Possible causes for this very high level of resistance and the implications for antibiotic usage are discussed.
