Abstract

A clinicopathological analysis of 45 cases of pleomorphic adenoma of minor and major salivary glands was undertaken. The tumour presented in the age range from 11 to 75 years (mean 31 years), and was slightly more prevalent in males than females in a ratio of 8:7. Nearly seventy percent (68.9 pc) of the cases presented in the minor salivary glands and 31.1 pc in the major salivary glands. Histological examination revealed that chondroid tissue was less observed in tumours of minor salivary glands than those of major salivary glands. Tumours with epithelial tissue predominance (ETP) were generally bigger than those with mesenchymal tissue predominance (MTP). Majority of the tumours showed histological, mesenchymal tissue predominance.
