Abstract

This problem is undoubtedly the most fascinating of all African orthopaedic problems. It entails an understanding of the mind of the patient and of medicine as well as of surgical technique. All operative techniques are sufficiently simple for their performance in the smaller centres, except for the operation of antero-lateral decompression and antero-Iateral thoracic body to body fusion.
