Abstract

There are grounds for measured optimism that cancer will be controlled, but much remains to be done before this is achieved. Research must be prosecuted with vigour, known facts regarding prevention must be applied in a practical way and new facts will doubtless be elicited in the future. Care must be taken to ensure that the maximum number of patients are diagnosed and treated in the earliest stage of the development of the disease. By these means the number of patients with persistent cancer will greatly diminish.
