Abstract

(1) Win 5047 (Mantomide) was given to 30 Africans infected with hookworms. (2) A single dose of 2 to 4 gm. was given to 29 cases and 1 gm. t.d.s. for three days to one case. (3) Six of the 20 cases (33 per cent.) followed up had stools free of ova seven or more days after treatment. This figure should probably be regarded with caution. (4) No toxic symptoms were observed or reported. (5) The drug does not appear to be suitable for field work in Africa, having only a moderate antihelminthic effect in the doses given. Larger doses than those given would be inconvenient to administer and transport.
