Abstract

Eight patients with moderate to severe hypertension have been treated with Bretylium Tosylate, ""Darenthin."" The drug is a potent postural antihypertensive agent and 'it is virtually free from side effects. It is well potentiated by hydroflumethiazide. Irregularity of intestinal absorption appears to occur in some cases, but it does not prevent adequate control of blood pressure. Mild tolerance which may develop during the first few weeks of treatment is easily overcome by an increase in dosage. The selection for treatment of African hypertensive patients has been mentioned and some aspects of the treatment of preeclamptic toxaemia have been discussed.
