Abstract

A case of unilateral gustatory sweating with contralateral preponderance of thermal sweating is reported. There was no history or sign of previous infection or of significant trauma involving the head or neck, nor any evidence of disease of the central nervous system. Investigations into the pathways along which the sweating is produced and into parotid gland secretion are descriptionbed. It is suggested that, for some unknown reason, partial degeneration of fibres of the right glossopharyngeal nerve and of the right cervical sympathetic has occurred and that aberrant regeneration has resulted in an abnormal connection between these two nerves.
