Abstract

Pruritus ani is a very common condition in this country and a very unpleasant one for the sufferer. In nearly every case a full history and a careful examination both general and local disclose a cause, and with the patient's cooperation the condition can either be eliminated or at least kept under control. The occasional patient may need psychiatric treatment, as symptoms recur at times of emotional stress, but I am fortunate that I have never seen one.
