Abstract

Following the judgement delivered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ, also known as the World Court) on 10 October 2002 awarding sovereignty over the disputed Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroun, the conflict between Nigeria and Cameroun over ownership of the oil-rich peninsula has taken a new twist. To many informed observers, the ICJ verdict has not come as a surprise.
