Abstract

In this book, the authors reflect on the two decades since the ANC gained power in South Africa and contend that it has failed to deliver on its promise of creating a better society. The authors attribute this failure primarily to what they describe as the ANC's "fall". Mashele and Qobo argue that the ANC is falling in the sense that it has failed to develop both a "clear set of ideas" about moving the country forward and "credible leadership that is fit for such a purpose" (p.11). The book maintains that the ANC, like the other former liberation movements which govern and have governed countries in post-colonial Africa, has a "terrible record of governance" (p. x).
