Abstract

To a large extent, the Better Life for the African Rural Woman (BLPARW) has done a superb job in transforming the attitude of the larger society in the Federal Republic of Nigeria to be more responsive towards the needs and aspirations of the rural African woman. Akey aspect of the BLPARW effort involved dealing with specific healthcare needs of rural women. With the benefit of experience in pioneering women's development programs and the rekindled effort in expanding the scope of what was done in Nigeria to the African continent, the BLPARW is honored to contribute this paper to this special edition of the journal that deals with healthcare delivery and opportunities in Africa. Programs active in rural parts of Africa do not always have the opportunity to share their experiences in scholarly journals and media.
