Many policy analysts have expressed fears that at the current rates of progress, sub-Saharan Africa will not be able to provide satisfactory health care to its inhabitants by 2020. This apprehension is based on demographic trends, poverty assessment and the effect of globalization. Trends in urbanization, health, education and employment do not look promising. In addition, the effect of diseases, especially HIV / AIDS, has painted an increasingly grim outlook on Africa. Despite the positive actions by many governments, there has been very little progress towards improving the overall socioeconomic conditions of Africans and the health status of people living in the continent. This paper highlights the major problems facing Africa, analyzes the current health situation, and gives a projection of the health scenario in Africa in the year 2020. Finally the paper gives recommendations on what can be done to improve the health outcome of Africa's inhabitants by the year 2020.
