Abstract

This paper established a relationship between human security and peacebuilding and argued that both focus on addressing the deep rooted and multi-factorial problems inherent in the country. It is the contention of the paper that Nigeria, since 1999, has been experiencing conflicts arising mainly from deeply rooted threats to human security. The threats to human security have been exacerbated by a long period of economic mismanagement; endemic corruption and lack of accountability and transparency experienced, especially within the thirty years of military rule in Nigeria. To enhance the constructive transformation of the existing conflicts in the country, the paper suggested that Nigeria should develop sustainable infrastructure of human security that is guaranteed through packages of peacebuilding measures.
