Abstract

The administration of President Umaru Musa Yar'adua which came to office on 29th May 2007 evidently appreciates the huge gap between the position of Nigeria now and where Nigeria wants to be in future as a nation. Consequently the administration anchored the public policy of the nation on a 7-Point Agenda. This paper is an attempt to evaluate the Agenda within the context of the following question : To what extent has the implementation of the Agenda improved the basic infrastructure in Nigeria? The paper argues that the 7 point Agenda reflects the self interest of the technocrats who formulated and implement them and hence have not been able to tackle squarely any of the numerous problems in the country. The Agenda is also rather too ambiguous and has the tendency to introduce confusion on development agenda of Nigeria. This paper recommends a one-point agenda - stabilize the power sector and everything will follow suit.
