Abstract

The author, a specialist in teacher education and French as a foreign language at the University of Leuven in Belgium, presents here a well-structured and remarkably open-minded book, written primarily for secondary school teachers. Based on classroom observation in a school with a strong contingent of children from Maghreb, the book is divided into three parts proposing a pedagogy aiming 'to give foreign children and teenagers the possibility to express themselves freely, find their identity without having to adhere completely to the French standard culture or the original culture of their immigrant parents' (p.34).
