Abstract

Problems of motivation and job satisfaction have plagued developing countries like Nigeria, and are evident from the low productivity, inefficiencies, and the worker's lack of willingness to work hard. The purpose of this research was to assess the impact of the personal characteristics of public sector managers in Nigeria. The sample consists of 695 public sector managers on salary grade levels 8 to 10, employed in selected federal government ministries in Nigeria. The results show that personal characteristics positively and significantly impact on job satisfaction. The implications of these findings are discussed.
