Abstract

The crucial importance of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to the economic development of South Africa has been indicated as far back as 1995 by Lekota. In the search for possible strategies to develop SMEs, special attention must be given to those ethnic groups that have by and large been marginalized from active and meaningful participation in the country's economy.
