Abstract

In many developing countries, including Nigeria, the importance place of entrepreneurs in national development has come to the fore; and in view of this, governments have expressed interest in entrepreneur development. Unlike in Asia and Latin America, this expressed interest, has not been matched with concrete actions in Nigeria. In this paper, challenges with emphasis on financial confronting entrepreneurs are identified and suggestions offered such that entrepreneurs can effectively employ to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The study used primary and secondary data for presentation, analysis, interpretation and discussion. Among our main recommendations are that government should encourage private institutions to provide loans and equity finance on suitable terms to entrepreneurs, by compensating such corporate bodies through generous tax rebates, and such like incentives. With the planned take-off the Third-tier Security Market (TSM) of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in the offing, smaller firms should use this opportunity to be listed in order to obtain finance from the stock market.
