Abstract

This first issue of 2014 continues the trend on business and economic research across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) - albeit with a skew on Nigeria - a country that has been documented as part of the "next big thing" outside the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) club of nations, and a member of the "newly coined" MINT (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkey) bloc. In furtherance of the debate over the power struggles for the coveted label, "Giant of Africa" muted in the last issue of AJBER, the rivalry between South Africa and Nigeria seems to have taken on a new turn - with other rising power houses such as Kenya lurking not too far away.
