Abstract

Ming Feng Tang's work arose out of her PhD work, which highlighted part of the triple helices in France and China mainly by focusing on technology transfer from university to industry. This concept of just looking at linkages of universities and industries is difficult when Governments use policy to influence how industry and universities can solve technology transfer challenges in their respective countries. There was a time when the division of labour of what universities engage in and what industries also engage in were different. Today universities are under pressure to commercialise, and industries are under pressure to become part of the knowledge economy. Changes mean that industries do R&D, patents, incubators; science parks and product development are taking place in universities. This changing relationship has been the subject of the work by Ming Feng Tang. She has employed an eclectic methodology by drawing from historical data, case studies and statistical data to show how the Chinese and French are developing the university and industry link to foster technology transfer.
