Abstract

David Smith's work on exploring innovation is another very useful textbook for introducing with clarity what innovation is all about. Unlike the more sophisticated and post-graduate level text book by Steve Conway and Fred Stewart, the work by David Smith starts with the simple query: what is innovation? What are the types of innovation and what is technological change. He goes on to develop the query what does innovation involve and outlines the theories, sources, processes and intellectual property issues of innovation. He follows this introduction by going into how to manage innovation, the technology strategy, the technical entrepreneurs, resources related to enhancing innovative and inventive activity and the organisation of innovation. Clear outlines on how to foster innovation through innovation policy, clusters and national innovation systems are made.
